About the author
Elio M. García Jr. is an author and continuity specialist for George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire world. With Linda Antonsson, he founded Westeros.org and became known for detailed knowledge of the series' characters, chronology, and setting.
García and Antonsson co-wrote The World of Ice & Fire and The Rise of the Dragon with Martin. Their role is not to continue the main novels, but to organize, verify, and present the history surrounding them.
Where to start
Start with The World of Ice & Fire for the broad history and geography of Westeros. Choose The Rise of the Dragon for a shorter, heavily illustrated account focused on the Targaryen dynasty.
