About the author
Suzanne Collins is an American novelist and television writer best known for The Hunger Games. Her dystopian fiction treats war, propaganda, class, trauma, and political symbolism through young people forced to perform for an audience with power over their lives.
Collins keeps the violence tied to the spectacle built around it. Katniss must read the terrain and the other tributes, but she must also decide which feelings can be shown, which alliances can be trusted, and what kind of performance might keep both her and Peeta alive.
Where to start
Start with The Hunger Games, then read Catching Fire and Mockingjay in order. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Sunrise on the Reaping are prequels, best approached after the original trilogy has shown what Panem becomes.
