Peter Hessler is an American writer and journalist known for long-form reporting on China and Egypt. He builds social change from classrooms, workplaces, family stories, and the patient return to people whose lives do not fit a single national argument.
More than twenty years after teaching in the small city of Fuling, Peter Hessler returns to China with his family in 2019. He teaches nonfiction at Sichuan University while his twin daughters attend a local public school, giving him two very different views of what Chinese education now asks of its students.
