About the author
Fredrik Backman is a Swedish novelist, columnist, and former blogger. He made his fiction debut in 2012 with A Man Called Ove and has continued to write about difficult people, accidental communities, grief, loyalty, and the small obligations through which strangers become important to one another.
My Friends moves between a teenage artist in the present and four friends on a seaside pier twenty-five years earlier. The painting connecting them lets Backman ask how art preserves a moment its maker could not keep—and how friendship can reach someone who was never there.
