Trevor Noah is a South African comedian, writer, producer, and former host of The Daily Show. His memoir uses stories from childhood under and after apartheid to show how race was enforced through law, language, neighborhood, and daily improvisation.
Trevor Noah was born in 1984 to a Xhosa mother and a Swiss-German father, a relationship apartheid law made illegal. His existence could expose his parents, and his appearance placed him differently depending on the family, neighborhood, school, or police officer looking at him.
