About the author
Sherry Turkle is an American sociologist and psychologist whose research follows people's relationships with computers, robots, mobile devices, and one another. She is a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and founded its Initiative on Technology and Self.
Reclaiming Conversation argues that constant connection can weaken solitude, empathy, and face-to-face talk. It continues the concerns of Alone Together while placing more emphasis on practices of repair.
Where to start
Start with Reclaiming Conversation for Turkle's practical case for face-to-face attention, then read Alone Together for the earlier research behind it.
