Lucy Apps is a British doctor and writer from East London. She works as a general practitioner, has volunteered with women with learning disabilities, and published Gloria Don't Speak as her first novel.
The novel stays close to Gloria, a young woman with a learning disability whose need for friendship leaves her exposed to danger and other people's decisions. It gives weight to her perceptions without turning vulnerability into an absence of agency.
