About the author
Kaliane Bradley is a British-Cambodian writer and editor. Her short fiction appeared in literary publications before her debut novel The Ministry of Time combined speculative fiction with a civil-service workplace, espionage, history, and romance.
The novel's narrator, a British Cambodian government employee, is assigned to Commander Graham Gore from Franklin's lost Arctic expedition. Bradley uses that pairing to examine empire, assimilation, bureaucracy, and the ethics of observing someone for the state.
Where to start
Start with The Ministry of Time, Bradley's debut novel, for a time-travel romance and spy story whose most consequential technology is administered as a government job.
