About the author
Douglas Adams was an English writer, humorist, and screenwriter. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy began as radio comedy and grew across novels, television, games, and film without losing its cheerful suspicion that the universe is badly administered.
Adams builds jokes out of scale. A planet disappears because someone failed to check a planning notice; the answer to life, the universe, and everything is useless without the right question. The Guide itself offers confident advice that is helpful mainly by comparison with having none.
Where to start
Start with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Arthur Dent escapes Earth's demolition with a towel, a friend from Betelgeuse, and very little warning.
