About the author
Brandon Sanderson is an American fantasy and science-fiction writer best known for Mistborn and The Stormlight Archive. Many of his adult fantasy novels share a larger fictional universe called the Cosmere, although each series is written to work as its own entrance.
Mistborn and The Stormlight Archive show two scales of his work. The first trilogy begins as a revolutionary heist, gives its magic a small set of physical rules, and brings the central conflict to a conclusion in three books. Stormlight develops Roshar through several nations, histories, magical orders, and intersecting character arcs across much larger volumes.
Sanderson was also chosen to complete Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time after Jordan's death. Working from Jordan's notes, he turned the planned final volume into three books: The Gathering Storm, Towers of Midnight, and A Memory of Light.
His fiction is often described in terms of worldbuilding and magic systems, but the machinery serves a narrative purpose. Limits make powers understandable; understood limits let characters plan; and those plans create the reversals for which his long conclusions are known.
