About the author
Arthur Conan Doyle was a British physician and writer whose Sherlock Holmes stories helped define modern detective fiction. He also wrote historical fiction, adventure, speculative fiction, poetry, plays, and nonfiction across a career far broader than Baker Street.
Doyle lets the landscape carry the supernatural possibility: fog, mire, and open ground make Dartmoor difficult to read and easy to fear. Watson's reports keep the investigation practical even while the hound seems to belong to an older kind of story.
