About the author
Abraham Verghese is an Ethiopian-born American physician, professor, and writer of Indian heritage. His clinical and literary work emphasises bedside examination, the physician-patient relationship, migration, family, and the stories through which illness becomes intelligible.
My Own Country and The Tennis Partner are memoirs, while Cutting for Stone and The Covenant of Water are expansive novels. The latter follows a Kerala family through generations of medicine, faith, and recurrent drowning.
